This unit comes with an NEMA 6-30R receptacle, which is required by code for installations where it will be hardwired.
Tesla uses Level 2 chargers in the US. Level 2 chargers provide 240 volts of electricity2, compared to 120 volts for Level 1 chargers. Some cars, like Tesla, need a special voltage.
Why is a Level 2 charger better than a Level 1 charger?
Leviton Level 2 chargers provide significantly more power than Level 1 chargers, which means they can charge electric vehicles much more quickly. A Leviton Level 2 charger can add up to 20 miles of range per hour of charge, while a Level 1 charger can add only two to four miles of range per hour of charge. For this reason, we recommend installing a Level 2 charger if you own a Tesla vehicle. This will provide the best home charging experience and allow you to charge your car as quickly as possible.

Can this be used outsidedoosr?
It’s weather sealed and designed to withstand extreme temperatures. This is a great product.
Why does your chart show that a 30 amp charger takes the same time to charge as a 40 amp charger?
You make a good point. The same charging rate of the electric cars in the chart is due to the limits of the internal charging block of the car. So for the EVs listed in the chart at the moment there is no difference which charger you use to charge it (Leviton 40 amp or 30 amp). Buying a powerful Leviton EVSE is more of an investment. For example, modern Tesla supports a limit of 48 amps.
What’s the difference between evr30 & evr40? Does the extra amperage permit faster charging?
It all depends on your car’s charging circuitry. My car’s charging circuit draws 20 Amps at maximum, so I recommend the 30A model. In my case, the 40A model doesn’t allow for faster charging.
Is this required to mount an electrical box? Is there a box in the charging station that can be used for electrical connections?
The bracket is included to mount the charger on the wall. An electrician ran a dedicated circuit of 240V, 30A from my electrical panel. This circuit was connected directly with the wire from the charging station. That should answer your question.
Is it 7.2 kw or 9.6kw? The product description and product title appear to contradict each other.
The EVR30 30A model has a 7.2 kW output rating, while the EVR40 model has a 9.6 kW output. The charging circuit specifications on your car will need to be checked, but the 30A model should be sufficient to charge my plug-in hybrid fully in a very short time.
The charger has a silver power switch. Is it possible to have this switch replaced with a key switch?
To stop unauthorised use, there is no way to change the side power button to a key switch.
Got my Leviton Level 2 Charger installed last week. Coming from a Level 1, this is a game-changer. Charges my Bolt so much faster, I couldn’t be happier. The quality? Solid, well-built, and the overcurrent protection gives me peace of mind. Did you know Leviton has been around since the 2000s? Speaks volumes about their experience. I totally agree with getting it installed by a pro though. What are your thoughts on self-install vs professional?
Hey folks, new EV owner here. Own a Nissan Leaf and thinking of getting a Leviton Level 2 charger. But is an EV tester really necessary? The cost adds up, you know? Curious to hear your experiences.
I recently made a video guide on how to install a Leviton Level 2 charger, including setting up the EV tester. Honestly, the EV tester is more for peace of mind and ensuring seamless charging. In my experience, it’s useful but not 100% essential. Thoughts?
Hey there! When I got my Leviton, I was in the same boat—wondering if the tester is crucial. So I didn’t get one initially. Big mistake. Had some inconsistencies in the charge. Eventually got the tester and it was smooth sailing after that. I’d say it’s worth the investment.
I’m on the fence between Leviton’s EVB32-H5 and EVR48-HD models. I have a KIA Niro EV and want the best bang for my buck. Any recommendations based on personal experiences?
I use the EVR48-HD for my KIA Niro. The 25 ft cord gives me the flexibility to park in different spots in my garage. Both are good, but the EVR48-HD just gives you more room to breathe.
Been using Leviton for a few months. Out of nowhere, thermal overload protection tripped. Tried resetting but no luck. Already reached out to their support. Any of you faced this? What was the fix?
So, Leviton vs. Generic Brand X: Let’s Talk. Leviton offers more miles per hour of charge, ENERGY STAR certification, and decades of experience. Brand X is cheaper but less reliable. For me, the peace of mind Leviton offers outweighs the cost difference. Your thoughts?
Hey, did you know you can optimize your Leviton charger’s performance by cleaning the charging port regularly? Dust and grime can actually interfere with the electrical connection. Simple trick but makes a difference.
Leviton just announced a new line of chargers with advanced thermal management features. They’re upping the game, given the rising competition. The importance of safety can’t be overstated, especially as EVs become more common. What do you think will be the next big feature in EV chargers?
