I like Grizzly. I just installed a Grizzly Classic in my second garage and for $600 with the premium cable ($500) for standard it is a very solid and simple unit. However, they will provide any additional features if you request them.
If I was doing an outside project in the north, I’d choose this piece. However, it is a little too expensive for a garage installation. Winters in Minnesota, on the other hand, may dip to below-freezing temperatures.
i don’t need a smartphone to interact with it, and the adjustable charge current is perfect for me. i like my grizzl-e. it’s simple to use and it meets my needs.
Do any of the Grizzl-e chargers have delay start timer?
Installed a Grizzl-E in my garage last winter. It was a lifesaver. I was initially worried about its performance in cold weather but it didn’t let me down. Impressed by how reliable it is. But gotta be honest, it’s a bit slower than my buddy’s Tesla charger. Still, for the price, I can’t complain. Would recommend. Thoughts on speed vs reliability?
I feel the same way. It may not be the Usain Bolt of EV chargers, but it sure is the Iron Man – durable and reliable. I think reliability over speed is a fair trade-off, especially for that price point.
Anyone know how Grizzl-E chargers handle fluctuating power grids? I live in an area prone to brownouts. If I invest in one, I don’t want it to fry on me.
I’m no expert, but the Grizzl-E chargers are built with multiple safety features and power protections. Haven’t had any issues despite the summer heatwaves that make my area’s grid pretty unstable. I’d say it’s worth looking into for your situation.
For those of you new to Grizzl-E, it’s super easy to adjust the amperage. All you have to do is open the box and tweak a few switches. Done it a couple times to suit different cars I’ve test driven. It’s nice that you’re not stuck at one setting. Who else has fiddled with these settings?

I faced a similar issue once. Turned out it was not the Grizzl-E but the house wiring. If it was fine for a year, maybe get your circuit breaker and wiring checked?
Had a ChargePoint Home before switching to Grizzl-E. For me, the simplicity and robustness of the Grizzl-E trumped ChargePoint’s bells and whistles. Sometimes less is more. The only downside is the speed; Grizzl-E is a bit slower. What’s your comparison experience?
Quick tip: If you’ve got the Grizzl-E with a J1772 plug, you can use it with pretty much any EV. I’ve used an adapter to charge a friend’s Nissan Leaf. So it’s more versatile than you’d think. What other ‘hacks’ have you guys discovered?
Just heard Grizzl-E is releasing a software update to improve charging speed. Keep an eye out. Anyone else excited about this or is it just me?
Heads up, check your Grizzl-E’s firmware regularly, especially after power outages. Mine acted weird once after a blackout but a quick update sorted it out. How often do you folks update?
